Reconciliation is a word that you might not have heard before, but you will have done it without knowing it. It means putting things right when they go wrong, or becoming friendly with someone again after a disagreement.
At Lagan College, we believe reconciliation is very important. Lagan could not have grown as much as it has over the years without people from different backgrounds and communities allowing reconciliation to happen between them. In the same way, we think it is very important to make sure that we put things right when they go wrong.
You will meet lots of different people as you go through school, and you will not become best friends with all of them. Even if you respect everyone, there are some people you might not get along very well with, or some friends that you might fall out with. At times like this, we feel the best thing to do is to work together to make things better.
There are many people in the school who may help you at times like this, especially if reconciliation seems difficult. The chaplains are always available in the chaplaincy to listen to any worries or problems you may be having and to help. They also have a team of sixth form students who are trained mediators - this means that they have been trained in how to work with two people who have fallen out or had an argument and help them to talk about their difficulties in a positive way to rebuild their friendship.
Your form teacher, head of year and other teachers are also there to listen and help if you have any problems.
