You are one of the lucky people to be a part of all of this. We hope that you will make a great effort to get to know people who are different from you and make lasting friendships here in Lagan College. You come to this school as an individual, with your own gifts, your own identity, perhaps your own religious or political views. It is important that you can be true to yourself and be proud of your identity, while at the same time being able to listen to others and learn from them.
We hope that here in Lagan, you will get many opportunities to integrate with others, get to know yourself better and see differences between people as exciting and interesting.
The word inclusion means being part of or feeling “included”. We see ourselves as a large family. Everyone in our school is an individual but we work together to get along and make our school a happy place to be, where staff and students feel safe and part of the community.
No matter what year you are in, the same ideas are important.
You have the right to experience our values but we also ask you to behave responsibly and respectfully towards others – this is our ethos. The ethos of a school is found in every part of its life; from the playground to the classroom and in the staffroom!
The founders of Lagan College had a vision of peace and unity for the people of Northern Ireland. That is why they chose a verse from the Bible to be the motto of the school: “Ut Sint Unum”, meaning “that all may be one”. We welcome everyone. Our desire is that every student who chooses Lagan is treated with respect and their culture and traditions are valued. We learn about each other’s religious beliefs and those of none. We hope that you to experience the love of God through the way that you are educated, cared for and treated.
